Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal for once had to bite the dust when he met Vanessa Selbst, who is currently ranked #2 on the Global Poker Index, in a heads-up match at The Monte Carlo Casino yesterday. The match was a charity event sponsored by PokerStars, where €5,000 was donated to Care International.
Even though Nadal lost the match he said: “It was a great honor to play against a strong competitor (…) I had a lot of fun.” Selbst on her part claimed that: ”It’s probably the coolest experience in terms of who I have played poker against so far”.
And the two certainly seemed to be getting along very well as you can witness in the video summary below:
The heads-up battle was the second official live tournament that Nadal participated in as a PokerStars Ambassador. In December he played a Six Max tournament in Prague against the likes of Brazilian football legend Ronaldo and the world’s #1 poker player Daniel Negreanu. A tournament Nadal ended up winning.
Besides that he has played two zoom poker sessions online against players from Spain and from the rest of the world. Both times Nadal came out the winner. No doubt he has a flair for the game. It will be interesting to watch a possible re-match, which Selbst announced on Twitter:
