Ever heard of Thi Ngyuen (aka Tea Newyen) from Toronto? If not, you may just as well start following her now, because this young Canadian is running super hot.
Even though Nguyen first started playing live tournaments recently, she seems to be crushing every tournament she enters. In February this year she final tabled an event at Fallsview Poker Classic for $32,496 and in July she won the Canadian Poker Tour Ladies Championship for $6,000.
Just a month ago she made it all the way to the final table of the Playground Poker Montreal Festival Main Event. Nguyen had hoped to take “6 figures home for mom”, but had to settle for $90k for her 3rd place finish – not bad for four days of work.
After her big score in Montreal, Nguyen took a break from poker:
Took a break away from poker since Montreal… I can't wait to get back on the grind and show mom my favourite place in the world tmr Vegas!

Maybe Nguyen’s mother was her lucky charm, for three weeks later Nguyen was able to fulfill her promise, when she won the Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza 3.5 $1600 NL Main Event for $120,561 on September 28th.
Brought home my second trophy this year. This one is special. This one was about me coming out here… http://t.co/eEbS7rMJDe

The road to victory was not without obstacles as Nguyen had to rebuy a couple of times, and the first two days “were brutal, bad beats all day”. After her win Nguyen said on Instagram, that she “never gave up, and I think that was the best thing about me and this tournament”.
Nguyen told PokerWomenNews that she was very happy with her year this far and that she hoped to “end it off with a Big Bang”. With the World Poker Tour coming to Montreal in November we hope to see more poker explosions from the talented Canadian. And by the way we have yet to see a woman winning a WPT Main Event title! It might as well be Nguyen.
